I think it simplifies the game.
E.g, in a non-grid system, if you qant to go north, how far will you go?
If you stand 400m from the back wall of the temple of Hromantuz (to the N-N-W),
how many commands you need to type to enter the temple? (Assuming the temple
occupies a 40x50 area and the door is on the other side?
