I've never done much trading, but I've navigated traffic to and from

work *a lot* and have wondered on occasion whether or not finacial

trading might not be similar to driving in traffic. (I've wondered

many other strange things as well. ;) Hey, it helps relieve the

boredom. Besides, what else am I going to do? )

Imagine that different markets are lanes and that you want to be in

the lane that is moving forward the fastest. While driving over

the same stretch of I-66 for many years, I've learned that exits

and other such "events" can have a rather predictable effect on

lanes of traffic. When approaching an exit, the left-most lane

typically slows down first, so you'll make better progress if you

move right. But the right-most lane slows down significantly where

new traffic is merging onto the highway, so you want to move back

toward the left at a particular point. I think traffic is

predictable in this way because of natural human tendencies, which

is what makes me wonder whether markets would have similar

predictabilities.

So, imagine an MMOG where different markets are portrayed as lanes

on a highway, various conditions and data are indicated by how fast

traffic in each lane is moving, various important "events" appear

down the road in the distance, and navigating through traffic has

the effect of moving your portfolio into (hopefully) the most

appropriate market.

Or not. In any case, don't drink and drive.
