The value of Metaplace goes well beyond game worlds. I've still the
"OtherLand" view on virtual presence and am still waiting for an entity
ready to step up to the plate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otherland
I've an email out to Raph asking their interest in corporate injection and
as yet have heard nothing. (why this came about is quite compelling in its
own right - we had a franchise owner asking for a Second Life presence just
last week. This is hardly a demographic known for blue sky dreaming - they
want to put money on the table. Ironically an interview with Raph recently
spells out in clear detail why no corporation will touch Second Life past
the experimental phase. Bouncing genitalia for the loser...)
If they are clever they can pre-position Google and introduce an open web
standard version of what VRML tried to promise a half decade ago. If not...
well I have a line out to Google as well. We're merely Fortune 1000 so
we'll probably slip below Google's radar.
